Meeting: November 2 2026

Post by LRC_Admin »

November will be here in just a few minutes it seems.

This time, we will be at the Elks Club located at 306 Coffman Drive in Longmont. We will be just at the bottom of the stairs in the room adjacent to the ball room. Its not pretty to look at, but it is already set in motion.

We will be talking about membership dues and I would like to start the conversation at $15.00 per member per year, starting in January. Lets get some opinions on this!

Membership dues are obviously to help us keep going through out the year. It doesn't pay for any outings, it just pays for our online presence and a few odds and ends here and there like printed materials and so forth.

The meetings I think, should be open to the public with or without dues.
But fully paid members will enjoy any group outings where we go with other clubs either to a paid dig site or maybe just a geology lesson at Sandstone Ranch. Maybe a group trip to one of the the geology museums in Southern Wyoming, the fossil beds in Nebraska, or a weekend up in Kremling. Each of those kinds of trips will be discussed as a group months in advance, voted on and put on the calendar.

I am hoping for a first trip in April, somewhere close, that can be cancelled at the drop of a snowflake as Colorado can be pretty unpredictable, and its no fun shoveling snow for a place to dig.

I would also like to begin a half hour discussion/film/lecture on some different things like feldspars, and the Feldspar Ternary Diagram. In January, we could talk about the other common silicates associated with feldspars such as quartzites, garnets and tourmalines (schorl and elbaite) so often found in the rocky mountains.

And as always, bring something for show and tell, that's a big part of what meetings are all about.

That's Monday, November 2nd at the Elks Club.
Hope you can join us!
